Notice before you record
Spend a moment looking at what is happening. You may notice a detail that a quick photo would miss: how people use a square, a conversation at a market or the sound of a street in the morning.
Ask, then listen
A local guide can add context, but curiosity works best when it leaves space for a real answer. Ask what a place means to them rather than assuming every person has the same story about it.
Respect the subject
Ask permission before photographing people when appropriate, and follow local rules around private or sensitive places. A meaningful memory does not require making someone else uncomfortable.
Keep a few honest notes
Write down something specific: what surprised you, what you learned to question, or a detail you would tell a friend. You do not have to turn a trip into a polished performance.
Share the experience responsibly
When writing for the journal, distinguish what you observed from what you assumed. Avoid exposing other people's private information. Use photographs you own or have permission to publish. A useful story can be simple, precise and genuinely yours.
